Copy of Catherine Duckworth’s  email to Mr. Dunford Makala
Commissioner for Social Welfare, Tanzania
20th August 2011

Dear Mr. Makala

I have watched the development of the Bethany Children’s home in Tanzania with interest almost from its inception. Many children have been given a chance in and of life because of the work there and some of the older ones have enjoyed the opportunity to come to England to expand their education. I have met most of them during their stays here and have found them by their commitment, dignity and joy of living to be real although unofficial ambassadors for Tanzania.

Those who have come have worked extremely hard to learn in what is often their third language, but they have battled through difficulties and shone as beacons of light giving hope for the future of Africa and Tanzania in particular.

I have known Graham and Sheila Pountain for over 25 years and I know that their care for the girls has been equal to the excellent care that they gave their own children. I know that they have gone to great lengths to ensure that the girls in their care remain true to their own culture.

I implore you to allow the next group of girls to come to England for the next year’s course.

Yours sincerely,

Catherine Duckworth
