This Photo was taken mid April and shows two of the classrooms built up to roof level.  As I was leaving  the window and door frames were being fixed and the latest report says all 4 classrooms and staffroom are  ready for the roof.  Interestingly the secondary school children want us to make it a Secondary School and  the workers want it to be a Teacher Training College but of course we are starting with a Primary School.
The photo below shows a new small accommodation block which is being built for our teachers who will live on site.  Jesca, Emma and Minza will be the first teachers to live there.  It has four bedrooms and a small lounge.

Bethany Summer Saunter went ahead as planned on Sunday 15th June with 78 walkers raising approx £2,500.  Many thanks to all our walkers and sponsors. Market Stall: Tuesday Friends from Ernest Street, Baptist Chapel held a Market stall on Monday the 16 June and raised over £500.  Many thanks for all the donations of goods and to all those who manned the stall. Other News: Wedding: The first of our Bethany girls to be married has her wedding on the 12th July at Bethany.  Joyce Malale is to marry Baraka Selemani. Marriage certificates in Tanzania are very very important as they give the women some rights denied to them if they just live together.  In our next update we will have more details and photos. Reunion Weekend: This years annual Reunion weekend will be on the weekend of the 12-13th July when all our ex-Bethany children return to Bethany to celebrate the achievements of the past year and look forward to the new.  This year will be very special as they will also be celebrating the wedding of Joyce to Baraka. Photos and details will follow on our next update. Summer Trips: All seven Bethany girls leave the UK on the 27th June, Graham and Sheila on the 29th June with Linda and Andrea on the 23rd July.  Sharon, Alison and Warren will follow on.  They will all be busy teaching various subjects and be taking all the teaching resources with them. New Girls at Blackburn College:  Once again we are grateful to Blackburn College for accepting 3 new Bethany girls on the 2 year level 3 Btec course on ‘Children’s care, learning and development’.  They are Nkamba, Elizabeth and Stella.

Jesca and Emma visit Radio Lancashire studios to talk about their stay in the UK and their hopes for the future.  Click on the YOUTUBE video to hear what they had to say.
The Farewell Party: About 160 people came to Jesca’s and Emma’s Farewell party.  Plenty of food was available and the evening included video of Bethany in Tanzania, a short history of Bethany and then Jesca and Emma did a sketch of what it was like to live in England followed by a talk on what they intended to do when they returned.  People gave generously to the work they intend to do and they raised approx £1,260.  Many thanks to all those who came and also for the food many of them brought. Jesca and Emma have promised to keep people informed of the work they will start by updating their website whenever they get the opportunity. www.emje-tanzania.org 
Latest News -  Friday June 27th 2014 Friday morning 2.45 am the 7 girls arrive at Manchester airport with their 14 x 23 kilo bags full of resources for teaching the children at Bethany.  They should arrive in Nairobi around midnight and then at 6am on Saturday they start their 12 hour bus journey from Nairobi Kenya to Bethany Tanzania hoping to arrive before nightfall.
