Sponsored Fund Raiser event for the Bethany Project - Children’s home and school Tanzanian, East Africa
On Saturday the 2nd January 2016 Starting 8am Gannow Lane bridge, Burnley BB12 6QP (next to New Life Church – Burnley) to Riley Green Bridge, Preston (opp. the ‘Boat Yard Inn’ - PR5-0SP) Half way point (10 miles) is Hermitage Street Bridge, Rishton, BB1 4NL (Canal View Cafe) which will be open for toilets and refreshments and will be the finish location for those doing the half-walk-a-thon (10 miles)
Event Insurance will be provided and we will provide stewards at the beginning, every 5 miles, at the half way point and at the finish.   The walk/run/cycle is a straight flat course along the canal towpath (no deviations etc.) so you won’t get lost!   Participants will need to arrange their own transport to the start and from the finish. Please bring your mobile phone to contact the emergency services in case of accidents etc.  Please note that at an average steady walk of 3 miles per hour it will take about 7 hours to complete (not allowing for rests/refreshments) and there are only 8 hours of daylight at this time of year.

Important UPDATE
We have been contacted by the ‘Canal and River Trust’ who inform us we need their permission to hold the event and they firstly require us to remove all advertising posters before considering our application. They then require us to fill in their 3 page application form, do a risk assessment, supply a map of the route and then they will consider granting us permission.  So far we only have 11 people who have shown an interest in taking part and so we have decided to cancel the event which means we won’t have the expense of providing event insurance and finding volunteers to do the stewarding. However some of you may decide to still do the walk outside of the event but of course there will be no stewards and no insurance if anything goes wrong.
