Sadly on Friday the 12th June we learnt that two of our girls (Debora and Mpelwa) failed to reach the required mark from their IELTS test to qualify them for a visa for the degree course offered by Blackburn College.  Rehema passed the exam but has decided to return to Tanzania with Debora and Mpelwa as she didn’t feel comfortable doing the course on her own. Therefore our Farewell Celebration will now be for four of our girls; Sophia, Rehema, Mpelwa and Debora.  Whilst this news is disappointing it is good news for Bethany as it means that Emma and Jesca will have 4 new teachers instead of just Sophia to help out with the school which we hope will very soon be registered.

Our two UK trained teachers Jesca and Emmakulatha report on progress with the new School Licence. They have a new volunteer teacher to help with some of the subjects especially subjects specific to Tanzania.  Both Jesca and Emma have help from the form 4 leavers especially Emmanuel and Bhati.  They have also arranged for some of the std 4 children to take their national exam at a local highly regarded private school.  In July they will have help from Sophia who will have completed her education in the UK and be joining them as a fully qualified volunteer teacher.
Today (03/07/2015) our school registration letter arrived. Education can now begin in ernest!

8 Bethany Girls at Manchester airport onTuesday the 30th June 2015 7.45am
At 6.30 am on Tuesday morning our 8 girls set off for Manchester airport.  Everthing went well and they checked in with their 38 kilos of luggage each plus laptop and handbag!  They flew to Instabul (4 hours) and then onto Dar-es-Salaam (7 hours).  They arrived at Dar- es-Salaam at 2.35 am in the morning (1st July)  and caught the internal flight to Mwanza at 6 am.  They were met at Mwanza airport by Daniel at 7.30 am and arrived at Bethany at 10 am with all their bags intact.  By now they will be working out their programme of lessons for the next 6 weeks, hopefully working in the Bethany school and also in the local government primary and secondary schools.  Graham and Sheila fly out on Sunday the 5th July and will join in helping with the work.  Later in August Marjorie, Joan and Gillian fly out for two weeks teaching.  This summer will be busy and we will bring back all the news at the end of July. Four of our girls (Fatuma, Stella, Elizabeth and Nkamba) will be returning to the UK mid August to complete their studies at Blackburn College.
