Highlights from the School Report from Emmakulatha (Headteacher) 22 Nov 2020 For the full report click here Emmakulatha says all is going well at school and KS1 have been learning the magic words - Please - thank you - sorry.  The boys have been learning how to keep their toilets clean. The solar panels in two classrooms are now working so that work can continue when the power fails (regularly).  The new staff toilets will hopefully be completed by January 2021. Our UK team member John Waith has been helping with the teaching of Maths to std’s  5, 6 and 7.  Our senior Teaching Assistant Daudi Mayala has completed his teachers certificate helped by a loan from Bethany.  He is now back at Bethany and repaying his loan. A new volunteer teacher has joined Bethany - a young lady by the name of Tabu Leonard (read the full report for more details). This year for the first time the children will take part in a nativity play - something the village children have never experienced. Our std 7 pupils have done well in their exams 6 pupils got grade A and 5 got grade B.  For detailed results of Bethany school click here. For results of all 90 schools in our district click here.  See the photos here.
Highlights from the Children’s Home Report from Ms Jesca Paulo (Coordinator) 25/11/20 For the full report Click here  Jesca reports that as of the 25th Nov 2020 Bethany is home to 154 children. 140 children are at either Primary or Secondary School (93 girls, 47 boys) all resident at Bethany. There are also 9 young people at College or high school (2 girls, 7boys) and 5 more boys waiting to join Veta government training courses in January 2021. New children: 15 new children have been accepted in the current year (10 girls, 5 boys) which includes 3 sets of twins. Please click here to see their photos and here to read their stories and here for all children.
Children general: All the children are well both physically and mentally and are happy to be at Bethany.  They are using their mosquito nets and taking every precaution against coronavirus.  Of the 149 children on site 25 are at secondary School and the rest are at our Bethany pre and Primary School.  The children are doing as well as their abilities allow.  Those attending our  Bethany Primary School generally do very well but those at the Government Secondary school complain about lack of resources, teachers and session they receive. Some times they only have two sessions per day and have to rely on Bethany for extra help with their school work.  John Waith a UK volunteer has been helping with the teaching of Maths for which we are very grateful. Click here to see photos. Children’s behaviour: Generally speaking the children behave well. One of our secondary school girls has been returned to her relatives.  Also three of our boys in form 2 at secondary school displayed dissapointing behaviour and since having been ‘spoken to’ have improved their behaviour. Baptism: 24 of our older girls have been baptised in Lake Victoria.  The girls made this decision of their own free will and attended a local Church. Click here to see photos. Other matters: We currently have 22 staff and 2 care-worker volunteers who receive a small allowance of 30,000tsh (£10) per month. Also we have two bethany girls who have finished high school.  Ruth Juma helping at our Bethany school and Elizabeth Joseph helping as a care-worker. Our new water project is presently on hold and we are still working on the VAT exemption for our new vehicle. However Toyota are trying to find a better price for us due to us being and NGO.

Extract from a report from John Waith- just returned from Bethany: Jesca (coordinator) was on great form and with her at the helm I can’t see where other similar institutions anywhere in the world can claim to be even as good as Bethany and I’m sure none can claim to be better. She continues to take in all- comers, even when others refuse, and integrates them into the family. The kids are just fantastic and it’s a privilege for me to be there and share it. Extract: Hello everyone, both in Tanzania and in the UK.  It is almost the end of the year 2020 and with everything that has happened good or bad, we are forever grateful to God that he has been faithful and has not forsaken us.  We continue to thank God for our supporters back in the UK for your continuous generosity and love you have shown for this family for many years now.  Even though things haven’t been easy this year, particularly with the Covid-19 pandemic and other personal challenges, your commitment and dedication to supporting the Bethany family has remained constant and for that, we pray that God blesses you abundantly and graciously more than words and thoughts can fathom. For secondary school results: form 1 click here, form 3 click here For progress of students in College/Higher education Click here.
