CHILDREN’S HOME and SCHOOL
Magu District, Mwanza Region, Tanzania, E. Africa
We are a small team of Christians working together to help the most
vulnerable children and people in a rural area of Tanzania. East Africa. We
are involved in providing financial support and volunteers to visit both long
and short term to share in the work both here and in Tanzania.
As of Dec 2022 caring for more than 150 children at our Children’s home,
and over 350 children in our school.

Students attending our local Government
Secondary school
When the Bethany children leave our Primary School they attend the local
government School (Sogeska).
Form 2: Jesca writes ‘So our form two as you can see have done really
really well and we hope for even better results when they reach form four
because they are all capable of doing it.’

Form 4 - secondary school leavers exam Jesca writes: ‘Our form four
children who just finished their final exams have once again done really
well, better than any class from Bethany has ever done and Sarah is the
top child in the whole District and among the ten best in the region.’

Jesca writes: ‘So Emma and I and the rest of the team are very pleased
and encouraged by these results and we thank God that he is taking
these children to different levels each time. We just hope that you too are
encouraged and the children themselves use these results to glorify God
for the service of his kingdom.’
Comment: If you take the time to have a look at the results from other
secondary schools (click here) you may be surprised to learn how few of
the children achieve division 1 or division 2. We believe that the failure in
the secondary schools is due to the fact that many children leave Primary
school with very poor English and therefore unable to understand the
lessons now taught in English.
Fortunately, the children leaving the Bethany school have a very good
grounding in the English Language which enables them to succeed at our
local goverment secondary school.
Report on visit November 2022 by Graham Pountain:
Our small girls dorm which has three wings accommodating 20
girls per wing each now have their own toilet and shower facilities -
our thanks to Mwita and Kulwa for their hard work in completeing
the work. As it’s the start of the rainy season the children and staff
have planted maize seed so hopefully we will have a bumper crop
in 12 weeks time. This will help with our food budget.

Latest News from our Bethany Pre and Primary School - Dec. 2022
Emmakulatha our head-teacher has just emailed us with the results for
the std 7 children (exam taken on leaving primary education).
She reports that of the 22 children sitting the exam 11 achieved overall
grade A and 11 overall Grade B. The link to the government results for

4 of our children went to the village school (taught in Swahili) and 2
gained B’s, 1 a C and 1 a D.
Hello from the Bethany Pre and Primary school
‘I would like to thank everyone for their continuous support and love for
the Bethany family.
I am so pleased with our STD 7 national results this year; it was not
easy but like you all know with God all things are possible! All of our 22
pupils who took the exam have passed with excellent grades and this
means they will all continue with their secondary education next year.
11 pupils out of 22 got an ‘A’ average and the rest got ‘B’ average.
Adding on that, for the very first time our overall school average this
year is A, I couldn’t be prouder of all the teachers and pupils for their
hard work. This is indeed a reward for our hard work! I am so grateful
to God and all our supporters who have played a big part in supporting
our school to provide the best free education to all our children. I am
also encouraged by our teaching staff who continue to show their
dedication to serving our Bethany vision.’

Extracts from an email from Jesca - Dec 2022
We had the visit from our Regional Commissioner on Friday with all
the officials from our District Council including the DC. It was a good
visit as the RC came to present on behalf of our President, who has
decided to share a small gift with 29 children's homes in the 26
regions of Tanzania this year as a way of showing her appreciation
for these organisations looking after all these children and also
letting the children know that they are cared for and valued.

We received this email from Emmakulath (headteacher) today:
Good News! STD 4 national examinations results are out and our children
have done an amazing job.

34 children took the exam, 26 pupils have an 'A' average and 8 pupils have 'B'
average. I honestly did not expect these results as it was such a challenging
class. Our God is indeed Faithful and hard work does pay off.

Remembering that we are a non fee paying English medium school teaching
students from poor backgrounds and also the children who are resident in
our children’s home the comparison shows just how much Emmakulatha
(headteacher) and her dedicated staff and hard working students have
achieved:
For example the three nearest Government Primary Schools (taught in
Kiswahili the national language) have achieved the following:
Yitwimila Primary School (our nearest village school) 83 students
- 4 A’s, 17 B’s, 40 C’s, 15 D’s and 7 Referred (fails)
Masanza Primary Sch. (next nearest Government Primary sch.) 108 students
- 0 A’s, 11 B’s, 27 C’s, 40 D’s and 30 Referred (fail)
Bulima Primary School ( next nearest Government Primary Sch) 142 students
-0 A’s, 17 B’s, 69 C’s, 42 D’s and 14 Referred (fail)
