The 26 miles (42 km) walk for the Community Outreach Programme was completed on Saturday the 5 June. It was from Bethany to Lamardi.  Some of the staff and many of the older children took part The purpose for this walk was to do something firstly to challenge ourselves, develop sense of resilience and perseverance in life but most importantly to try and raise some funds to help with our community outreach programme starting next week which will include: building a simple house for two families in the village we've identified and also supporting another family to refurbish their mud-brick house. Secondly, groups of children will take turns to visit the hospitals to meet and pray with individuals and help with basics such as soap, body jelly, and food. As well as visiting hospitals, some kids, especially those at the age of 18 and above wanted to visit our nearest prison which will be in Bariadi or Musoma and learn something from this. These are just ideas, we'll implement each as we see fit and considering the time we have. However, my priority is just trying to get the children and willing staff to be actively involved into the surrounding community by seeing the needs and responding by using their time and energy to respond to people in need. Bethany Pre and Primary School: Our School is funded by donations from individuals, churches etc. and provides free pre and primary education to both the village children and the Bethany children.  Altogether over 300 children are cared for with the village children receiving 2 free meals per day. Our results are outstanding as of the 587 std 7 children in our district (8 schools) only 4 achieved grade A and all 4 were from Bethany. Please click the links below for the various reports: Extracts from an email from Emmakulatha (headteacher) Sent with the school reports June 2021 ..... you will be encouraged also to hear that our school is considered to be one of the best schools in our region, and this is not only because of the academic achievement but also in terms of how the school is helping to transform children's lives. The officials who pay us visits are amazed to see how well our children behave and of course how good their English is.  This is just one of the reasons I am encouraged to commit myself to serving the Bethany vision. ....I am so thankful for all the support you are giving to Bethany; I just wish you could see how you are helping to transform the lives of these young people; it is amazing to see how far they have come and what they have achieved.  Hearing some of our village children sharing what they liked about the school; the comments just made me remember my childhood at Bethany. Just to share a few; " I like it here because I get to have breakfast and lunch every day" " I feel loved and safe" " I am now a Christian and a child of God", " I can communicate well in English, I can even talk to our Volunteers from England". Looking at these children, I could just see that they have hope for the future and this is what Bethany is here for.  Bethany is growing each day and is in good hands. May God help us to continue serving this vision together.
Above: Before the walk
Hello everyone in the UK, Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your gracious support for the 26mile walk we completed raising funds towards our ‘community outreach programme’ (see report below). So far, the children have been able to make mud-bricks for a house with two bedrooms and small central corridor which will have iron sheets on the roof for our first identified family.  Please see attached pictures of the family we are doing this for, also see pictures of the children getting the footings ready to start building.  The children are having to juggle between the chores at home (Bethany) and also their involvement in the outreach programme.  I must say, I am very proud of both boys and girls for their determination and hard work to try and help others. ..............  To continue reading Click here.
